Art: What was the most moving piece of art that you saw/experienced this year? This could mean a painting or a sculpture, or a performance you took in, or even a book that you read – tell us about the kind of art you encountered, and the way that it moved you.
Even just looking at a picture of this statue moves me. It was the first statue that I saw when I went to the War Memorial of Korea back in the spring. At the time this was what I wrote about it and I can’t say it any better now than I could then:
The statue itself is set atop a dome and…[s]omething about the naked vulnerability of [it]…really moved me.
I think as an immigrant to Canada, I don’t tend to feel emotionally connected to the great wars because my family wasn’t directly involved in those…Being here in Korea, though, I identify as a Canadian as you only can when you’re not in Canada anymore…[I]t affected me much more to see these tributes and monuments to the Canadian effort to help in this country so far away.
